Sidemoor First School, working together, enabling everyone to do their best.

All the children have settled very quickly into their new classes.

Our Walking Bus has been launched. Walking to school is good exercise and gets the brain ready for learning. It is easy to register - just ask for a form at the office. In December the bus will be operating three mornings a week. We hope that more parents will train to be "drivers" and that the scheme will grow.

We raised £122 for Children in Need with a "Pudsey Day". Children brought donations for Children in Need and received a Pudsey badge and raffle ticket for a fantastic Pudsey Bear cake made by Sam, our school chef. There was also a special Pudsey Menu at lunch time - the Pudsey Pizza and Pudsey biscuits were very popular and over 100 children had a hot meal! Congratulations go to the two children who won the Pudsey colouring competition run by BAM FM Catering. The catering manager, Geraldine McCurry, awarded the prizes.

Key Stage 1 children have enjoyed their first half term learning about Spain. They finished their topic with a party complete with Spanish costumes, dancing and fun with pinatas made in design and technology

.

Miss Pascoe and Bracken, the Sidemoor Bear, travelled to France to set up a link with a primary school in Saint Laurent. The link is part of a wider Worcester County project. We are looking forward to exchanging information and practising our French.

Our Harvest Festival this year took place on World Food Day. We celebrated the harvest, saying thank you for all the good food we have to eat. We also thought about the importance of sharing what we have with those who do not have enough food to keep them alive. We collected money for Food Aid.

Active Families is a new opportunity for families to join in fun activity sessions together. The sessions are run by Bromsgrove Sports Council on Tuesdays from 5.00pm - 7.00pm. Ben Powers came to school to give each class a "taster" session. Why not come along and join in?

The Mad Science Show came to Sidemoor. James, the scientist, impressed us all with his entertaining experiments demonstrating air pressure.

Great news! We have been awarded the Extended Services Stamp for our commitment to working in partnership with other organisations to provide services for children and families. We work closely with "Peartree Children's Centre" where there is a wide range of services for families and children under 5, "The Den", our provider of before and after school care, local sports and activity clubs and a number of other support services.

A group of children in Year 3 took part in a Tag Rugby Festival and learned some new skills. The Festival was postponed from the Summer Term due to the weather - we were pleased that it went ahead this term.

This year we are taking part in a Play2Learn project with the County Youth Music Service. All the children in Year 4 are having the opportunity to try out three different instruments. This term they are learning djembe drumming. Learning an instrument is great fun and develops concentration, self discipline and teamwork.

The children in our two reception classes invited their parents when they stayed to lunch for the first time. Our hot dinners are delicious!
