The Spring Term is always busy and we have lots of visits and visitors to school to help make learning interesting and exciting. Click on the images below to see some photos.
Marilyn Griffiths retired from her post as lunchtime supervisor after 25 years of service to the school. We all wished her a very happy retirement and presented her with flowers and gifts.
At the end of term, Quantum Theatre Group entertained everyone with their show "What if it Rains" . The show brought our Change Week to a great conclusion and reminded the children about the benefits of walking to school for both our health and the environment - whatever the weather! We hope that more children and parents will join our walking bus next term.
At the end of the Spring term we held a special "Change Week" to think about our environment and the changes we can make for the better. There were many activities organised in school and some in partnership with Meadows, Parkside and North Bromsgrove High School. If you click on the icon below, you will find four pages of photos.
Stephen Cartwright has installed our glasswork in the courtyard. It looks beautiful as it catches the light and casts interesting shadows through the day. Everyone has been looking at the finished work to find their individual glass tile.
Families have been having fun learning together this term. Children in Reception classes have been learning with their parents and carers alongside Mrs Taylor. Another group of parents has been exploring Forest school with their children and enjoying outdoor learning.
The children in Key Stage 2 visited a Hindu Temple as part of their topic learning about India and Hinduism. They all found the visit very interesting and Mrs Shearwood was impressed by their written accounts when they returned.
A group of Year 3 and 4 children had great fun taking part in a Tag Rugby Festival. The fancy dress was in aid of Comic Relief!
Madame Sandrine Brichet came to visit Sidemoor from our partner school in France. She saw all the classes at work and answered lots of questions about schools in France. We are planning a joint environmental project and we will be sharing information with the pupils of St Laurent Primary School.
A great event in Healthy Living Week was our Super Schools sponsored afternoon. Jamie Baulch came to Sidemoor and helped to organise a series of exercises with all the children. He talked about his sporting achievements and showed everyone his Olympic medal.
Idris the chef made another visit to the school during Healthy Living Week. He works with Year 3 and 4 children every year to introduce them to the skills and pleasures of preparing and eating healthy food. This term the children made a delicious tomato tart.
The Life Caravan came to Sidemoor for the start of our Healthy Living Week. Each class visited the caravan for a talk about healthy lifestyles. There was a different talk for each year group and a session for parents too. All the children enjoyed meeting Harold the Giraffe.
Year 4 children performed their Indian Dance at the Artrix as part of the local dance festival. They enjoyed taking part themselves and watching the performances of other groups.
Learning in the Forest is very popular with all the children. Mrs Ashton, one of our trained Forest School leaders, is teaching forest skills to groups in KS2.
A coach from Kidderminster Harriers came to Sidemoor and worked with children to develop their football skills. We also have a football club after school every Thursday, run by Bromsgrove Sports Council.
Steve Cartwright, a glass artist, worked with each class in turn, showing the children how to design and make glass tiles. The children took great care and produced a tile each. They will now be assembled as a sculpture in our courtyard. Come back to this page in a few weeks time and you will be able to see photos of the finished product!
Term 2 of the Play2Learn scheme sees our Year 4 children learning to play the cornet. Lessons are every Monday and are taken by Mr Hattersley and Mr Oldham from the County Youth Music Service. After the first two lessons the children took their instruments home to practise. We hope that families (and neighbours) will encourage and support their efforts.
KS 2 are learning all about India this term. An Indian Dance teacher came to Sidemoor and taught the children the art of telling stories through dance. The dances required lots of concentration, control, flexibility and strength. The children are now preparing to take part in a dance festival later this term.
